#InsideBuzz: On Edge

Posted by Megan Plassmeyer on March 28, 2016 at 2:54 PM

Because bringing every single one of you to the State House would make for a parking catastrophe and a fire hazard in the chambers, we’re trying to bring the State House to you in a new blog series: #InsideBuzz.

H.3114 (Twenty Week Abortion Ban): This is a bill which would restrict abortion care at the point of 20 weeks and grants NO exception to victims of rape or incest. So far we have been able to stop Representative Delleney from accessing free conference powers that would enable him to move forward on this legislation.

The House is currently on furlough (recess) until April 12th, and the Senate is on furlough until April 5th. Legislators need a spring break, too!

H.3204 (Cervical Cancer Prevention Act): This bill would provide parents with information regarding the life-saving HPV vaccine. It is still being blocked in the Senate, but we hope to see movement next week

S.719("Personhood" legislation): This so called "personhood" legislation would grant constitutional rights for fertilized eggs at the “moment of fertilization,” before pregnancy has occurred. This type of legislation is so broad, it would outlaw emergency contraception, hormonal birth control pills and other methods of birth control because they can prevent a fertilized egg from implanting in the uterus.

This bill passed the Judiciary subcommittee on March 17 on a 2 to 1 vote. We will keep you posted on any further                               movement.
