How Can I Help You Say Goodbye

There’s a song by Patti Loveless that always makes me stop – and it has been running through my head for the past few days. It’s called “How Can I Help You Say Goodbye.”

After 6 amazing years, it is time for me to leave Tell Them and my position as Associate Director for Strategic Mobilization. That means leaving friends and colleagues who have become family, a city and state that have become home, and work that has become a passion. I have grown and learned so much in my time at Tell Them and I cannot believe that it the time has come to go.

I joined Tell Them in February 2009, and within my first week on the job, was already put to work writing action alerts and attending hearings at the Statehouse. Back then, Tell Them looked very different.

In 2010 came an update of our brand and the addition of our Bee. And the first Virtual March, which would morph into our annual Bee Day at the Statehouse (coming up on March 25, 2015 – click here to sign up). Along the way, we were fighting back against policies that attempted to strip women and families of their access to essential counseling and services. We were canvassing, emailing, calling, and trying to navigate the crazy world of Twitter.

As the work has grown, so has the team around me. I've been so fortunate to be part of one the closest and supportive teams I've ever known. The Tell Them family is filled with love, laughter, and lots of passion (along with a few bottles of wine). Included in this family are the 18,000 Tell Them members and Ambassadors. These are fierce advocates who know that bringing responsible reproductive health policies to South Carolina is a necessity, and won’t stop pushing our elected officials until these rights are secured. Together, we pick each other up and support one another through the hard times, and celebrate together in our victories.

As Patti Loveless sings, “life's about changing, nothing ever stays the same.” It is with a heavy heart that I leave you this week. I will be moving to New York City, and joining the team at Everytown for Gun Safety as the new Senior States Legislative Manger, and help bring responsible solutions to our country’s gun policies. As we've proven in South Carolina’s reproductive health field, common ground can be found on our nation’s seemingly most divisive issues if you look for it.

Thank you for your support, inspiration, and dedication over the past 6 years. It has been an honor to be part of this movement, and I know that there is nothing but success for Tell Them in the future.
