Hurray! A Judge Consults Facts in Making Decision on Plan B

Posted by Ryan Morgan on April 05, 2013 at 12:00 PM

Thanks to a federal judge who doesn’t play politics with women’s health, Plan B One Step and its generic versions will be available over the counter within 30 days.

That’s right: no age restrictions, no sales restrictions, no unnecessary hurdles for women to jump over to get the reproductive services they need.

It’s kind of a no-brainer: Plan B is made of the same stuff as birth control pills and works similarly. They both prevent pregnancy by preventing ovulation, fertilization, and implantation. Essentially, these hormones prevent the release of an egg from the ovaries, and make the uterus an inhospitable place for an egg to live in general. If you are already pregnant, emergency contraception WILL NOT affect the pregnancy.

So take today to celebrate--medically-accurate information and commonsense won over misinformation and partisan politics. Hurray!
