On Thursday November 14, 2013, Leslie Sullivan, stylist and operator of Salon Serenity in Greenville SC, hosted her first series of “Let’s Talk About It” a live panel discussion. The tag line for this series of discussions is: “Changing Lives One Conversation at a Time.” Ms. Sullivan is an amazing young businesswoman. She owns her own salon, gives back to the community and is determined to inspire women to be successful in life. I had the honor of serving as a panelist for this live panel discussion. On the evening of the event, we met at the location early to prep for the event. We greeted each other and introduced ourselves to the moderator. During this time the audience was filing in and finding their seats. As we arranged our seating, checked sound and microphones we did a mock-discussion as a warm-up, unbeknownst to the audience. Our moderator asked a few questions for each panelist to address. We did not realize how the audience had grown or how engrossed each woman had become in our discussion until we heard a huge sigh from the audience because of our abrupt halt to the discussion. This was my indicator that the women in the audience were “hungry” for inspiration and that we were going to have a great discussion! Sharing the story of my journey to success as a single parent and career-focused woman not only inspired women that night, but it also confirmed that this is what I was created to do in life. I’ve known for a while that part of my life’s purpose is to empower, uplift, motivate and inspire women. This event gave me a sense of fulfillment that I have never felt before and reignited my purpose in life! There are so many powerless, and voice-less women in our communities today, living in fear, searching for a beacon of confidence and hope. I have vowed to “Live My Purpose” every day. I will empower and inspire each woman I meet with my actions and words. You were given one life to live; why not “Live Your Purpose”?
